The inspiration for my African Series was born when my daughter was working as a Nurse for Doctors Without Borders and was assigned to Zambia. I learned about the country and its people through countless emails, letters, and photos. She loved the people and said they are known as "the smile of Africa". She brought home many unique and wonderful fabrics which I gladly added to my stash.
In my work, I want to convey the warmth of these people, the color and style of their clothing and depict their way of life and their aspirations.I love working with the colorful African palette of fabrics and adding embellishments, found objects, and hand made stamping, beads, fibers, and buttons.
